Arriving at the property it’s clear that The Slate House is more than just your average holiday home. Imagine a very unique stacked slate house with character and charm peeking out from amongst the tree ferns as you enter through the gates and down the driveway. The natural bush surrounding the house offers an ever-changing landscape, from the cool morning mist and mysterious fog, to warm rays of sun filtering through the canopy. There’s no mistaking, you have just arrived at The Slate House.
Walking down the garden paths and to the entry, guests are greeted with the sound of birdsong from the many unique and vibrant local birds that call The Slate House home. Comfortable outdoor lounge furniture and a magnificent hanging egg chair encourage you to put down your bags and soak it all in. While a fire pit and BBQ allow for outdoor entertaining no matter what the weather.
Entering the house through the kitchen with a butler’s pantry, dishwasher, coffee machine, large fridge, and falcon stove, it’s clear that love and care have been taken to ensure guests have everything they need to enjoy their stay. To the right, a huge dining table made from a fallen ash tree from the property offers space for everyone to gather and enjoy a meal, and the adjoining lounge room with an open fireplace is the perfect spot to cozy up on those cooler nights.
The large downstairs bedroom is complete with a king bed with luxurious soft furnishings and premium linens for the perfect night’s sleep. While the two upstairs bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with 2 king singles, provides flexibility and stunning views through the treetops.
Downstairs guests will also find a large bathroom with luxurious vanity, walk-in shower, toilet, and a separate laundry complete with washing machine and dryer. While upstairs a second ensuite bathroom, adds further comfort to this beautiful home.
Other features include gas ducted heating, BBQ, stunning outlooks from all windows plus beautiful timber floors throughout. The Slate House is your perfect private weekend escape and only a short drive into Healesville with all of its wonderful cafes, distilleries, wine bars, and wineries for those wanting to enjoy the experiences that the Yarra Valley has to offer.
Healesville is located in Melbourne’s scenic Yarra Valley, east of Yarra Glen and north-east of Lilydale.
Healesville is a major tourist destination, located in the famous Yarra Valley grape growing region. The town is surrounded by mountains, forests and rolling hills dotted with wineries, fruit and berry farms.
Enjoy scenic views of Healesville, Mount Riddell and the surrounding valleys by driving along Yarra Glen Road west of the racecourse. The route north along St Leonards Road and Myers Creek Road winds its way past a number of fruit and berry farms.
The commercial centre of Healesville is situated along the shady tree-lined boulevard of Nicholson Street, which features a large selection of speciality shops, hotels, cafes, and a modern shopping complex built around a major supermarket.
Just north-east of town is the Maroondah Reservoir, which offers colourful gardens, BBQ and picnic areas, and path along the elevated dam wall provides panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Four kilometres south of the town centre is the Healesville Sanctuary which first opened in 1934 and features an impressive collection of birds, mammals and reptiles. Badger Weir Park, located 3 kilometres east of the Healesville Sanctuary, features a weir, landscaped picnic areas with rotundas, and walking trails through fern gullies and forests.
A popular scenic drive is north-east along the Maroondah Highway through the dense forests at Black Spur towards Marysville.

OFF-GRID:
The Slate House has been developed over the years to be eco-friendly and off the grid. A near new generator and a 12 Volt battery bank supply the power, water is from the mountain and a natural spring tops the tanks up, with efficient double-glazed windows keeping the home at an ambient temperature. Due to the off-grid nature of the property is best suited to resourceful guests.
Sound & Motion activated CCTV is operated outside of the premises pointing down the driveway for security and records for the duration it detects sound or motion. Our CCTV is not operational when guests are in-house.
WILDLIFE:
The abundant wildlife are used to a peaceful life and because this is their home too we ask that no pets accompany you on your stay at The Slate House.

We conduct checks and encourage our neighbours to report any breach of these booking terms. You will be asked to leave and your booking terminated (no refund) if found in breach. Also due to the layout of the property and the precious items at The Slate House, it is unfortunately not a suitable space for children under 12 years of age. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to welcoming you. *A valid proof of ID is requested in advance of your stay to comply with the terms of our insurer for insurance purposes.
The Weekend Escape team will be available for the duration of your stay during business hours and an emergency out-of-hours contact number is provided for anything out of the ordinary.
Exploring the region is a breeze, thanks to the well-connected network of country roads. Opting for self-driving is highly recommended as it provides the utmost flexibility and convenience.
